Congratulations to Our 2017 Early Career Award Winner Dr. Jean-Sébastien Moore!

The AFS Genetics Section would like to congratulate Dr. Jean-Sébastien Moore as the recipient of the 2017 Early Career Award. The goal of the Early Career Award is to promote innovative genetics research, increase interest in fisheries genetics careers, and enhance professional connections among fisheries geneticists. Jean-Sébastien is an Assistant Professor at Laval University in the Département de Biologie and Institut de Biologie Intégrative et des Systèmes. After studying effects of gene flow on stickleback evolution, Jean-Sébastien headed north to study impacts of migration on genetic population structure in salmonid species. Working with scientists from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans he helped improve tools for management of anadromous species in the Arctic. He was nominated by Dr. Louis Bernatchez based on Jean-Sébastien’s impressive publication record in the fields of evolutionary biology and applied fisheries research and his outreach efforts. What set Jean-Sébastien apart is his dedication to integrating his research findings with traditional knowledge by organizing elder-youth-scientist knowledge sharing camps and his continued involvement with the Inuit communities of the high north. Please join us in congratulating Jean-Sébastien!
